Bicyclist Killed in Semi-Truck Accident on Blue Diamond Road in Las Vegas

 
LAS VEGAS, NV (December 18, 2024) — A man riding a bicycle died in a semi-truck accident on Blue Diamond Road on Monday, December 9.
 
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the accident occurred on Blue Diamond Road and Valley View Boulevard at about 7:36 a.m.
 
A preliminary investigation determined that a 55-year-old man rode a Blue Huffy Mountain Bike north on Blue Diamond Road. Then, he entered a marked crosswalk.
 
At the same time, a 2008 Peterbilt 386 tractor-trailer moved south and tried to turn right on a solid red traffic signal. During the turn, the semi ran over the bicyclist.
 
Emergency crews arrived and attempted to save the bicyclist. However, he succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
 
The semi-truck driver stayed at the scene and did not display signs of impairment.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
 
LVMPD said the incident marked the 150th traffic-related death under their jurisdiction this 2024.
