DALLAM COUNTY, TX (August 29, 2024) — Two men, Benjamin Lux and Camaja Ortiz, died in a rollover crash on Wednesday, August 14.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred around 5:40 a.m. on Highway 385, about eight miles north of Dalhart.
 
Texas DPS said 18-year-old Jose Quinilla, of Dalhart, drove a 2004 Toyota Sequoia north on Highway 385. Then the driver failed to drive in a single lane. The vehicle then veered off the roadway and went into the east ditch.
 
Quinilla attempted to get back on the road. However, he over-corrected the steering and caused the SUV to side-skid. It eventually overturned multiple times.
 
The force of the crash ejected two passengers from the vehicle. The Dallam County Justice of the Peace pronounced both passengers dead on the scene. Officials identified them as 19-year-old Benjamin Lux and 29-year-old Camaja Ortiz. Both were Dalhart residents.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics brought Quinilla to Coon Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
