Off-Duty Las Vegas Officer Benjamin Coreas Arrested in Las Vegas DUI Accident

 
LAS VEGAS, NV (April 18, 2023) — Authorities arrested an off-duty Las Vegas officer identified as Benjamin Coreas after a DUI crash on Wednesday, April 12.
 
According to Nevada State Police, the crash happened on northbound Highway 95, just south of Summerlin Parkway at around 4:45 a.m.
 
Nevada State Police said Coreas drove a dark-colored Jeep northbound on Highway 95, south of Summerlin Parkway. Witnesses told officials that the Jeep traveled recklessly. As a result, the front of the Jeep hit the rear of a nearby silver Toyota.
 
The impact caused the Toyota to steer into the Summerlin Parkway off-ramp, where it came to a stop.
 
Authorities said that the Jeep overcorrected upon impact and which caused it to overturn. The vehicle then came to a stop on its roof in the Highway 95 travel lanes. While the Jeep was stopped in the travel lanes, a white Toyota traveling northbound on Highway 95 hit the Jeep.
 
According to police, all drivers of the vehicles were adult males. Medics rushed the driver of the white Toyota to UMC in critical condition. The driver of the silver Toyota was not hurt.
 
Nevada State Police arrested Coreas for suspicion of impairment. He is currently being held at Las Vegas City Detention Center.
