Belva Hartsfield Identified in Fatal Crash on Highway 7 in Shelby County

 
SHELBY COUNTY, TX (February 16, 2023) – Officers identified 72-year-old Belva Hartsfield of Lufkin as the victim who died in a crash on Highway 7 on February 14.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at FM 2913 around 6:40 AM.
 
Based on a report, 22-year-old Michelle Acosta of Center was driving a white 2014 GMC Acadia SUV west on the highway at the time of the crash. Behind her was Hartsfield’s red 2010 Hyundai passenger car while 36-year-old Travis Edds of Nacogdoches was driving a white 2018 Chevrolet pickup in the opposite direction.
 
Due to unknown reasons, Acosta traveled into the oncoming lane and struck Edds’s Chevy. Subsequently, Hartfield struck the Chevy as it skidded into the westbound lane.
 
As a result, Hartfield suffered severe injuries and died at Nacogdoches Medical Center – Shelby Emergency Department.
 
Crews transported Acosta to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Her 1-year-old child and Edds were not hurt in the incident.
 
As of now, no other details are available. In addition, the case remains under investigation.
