Aspen Blessing Dies after Abilene Head-On Crash on 20 Freeway
ABILENE, TX (March 21, 2024) — An 18-year-old girl from Baird identified as Aspen Blessing died in a head-on crash on Sunday, March 10.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash took place on 20 Freeway, about four miles east of Abilene at about 4:00 a.m.
The Texas DPS Trooper’s investigation said 28-year-old Brenden Lucero of Cassville, Missouri drove his 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 east in the westbound lanes of 20 Freeway.
At the same time, Blessing traveled west in the westbound lanes of 20 Freeway in her 2011 Ford Edge SUV. The report said the Dodge collided with the Ford head-on.
Baird died at the scene.
Paramedics transported Lucero to Hendrick Medical Center with serious injuries.
Officers said Blessing wore a seatbelt, but Lucero did not. The weather was clear, and the roadway was dry.
