Aquileo Najera Dies while Police Arrest Jesus Arroyo after Phoenix Hit-and-Run
PHOENIX, AZ (November 7, 2024) — A 51-year-old man, Aquileo Najera, died after a hit-and-run on Saturday, October 26.
According to the Phoenix police, the accident occurred near 59th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard around 6:00 a.m.
Phoenix police said 19-year-old Jesus Enrique Renteria Arroyo drove southbound on 58th Drive at a high rate of speed. Then he ran a stop sign at Encanto Boulevard and crashed into Najera’s vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found Najera with serious injuries. They administered medical aid. However, Najera ultimately died at the scene from sustained injuries.
Officials said the Arroyo initially fled the scene on foot. Police later found him at a nearby home and then arrested him.
Police said Arroyo admitted he was under the influence while in custody. Officials booked him into jail on multiple counts of DUI, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
