19-Year-Old Aquazia Kennedy Killed after Dallas Collision with Off-Duty Dallas Police Officer
DALLAS, TX (January 22, 2024) — A pregnant woman, 19-year-old Aquazia Kennedy, died in a car crash on Saturday, January 6.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff, officers responded to the crash in the center lane of 30 Freeway at Second Avenue.
Reports said Kennedy, who was pregnant, was in the back seat of a Chevrolet Malibu with her brother. Then the car stalled and became disabled in the center lane of the 30 Freeway.
After that, an off-duty Dallas police officer driving a Jeep Wrangler struck the back of their vehicle.
Kennedy died, but doctors were able to save her child. Her family named her child Sky’Lynn Kennedy, a name her mother chose for her before the crash happened. Sky’Lynn survived internal injuries, and a broken leg in the crash. However, there are still concerns she may have sustained a head injury.
The brother also survived his injuries from the incident. Deputies said medical personnel also released the off-duty officer from the hospital.
Since there are no charges for the officer, neither the sheriff’s office nor the Dallas Police will release the officer’s name.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, which handles the investigation into the crash, said there’s no evidence of impairment in the crash.
Kennedy’s family created a GoFundMe to help them with funeral expenses and baby supplies.
