April Cavazos Struck and Killed by Vehicle, James Lopez Charged with Assault after Accident on Highway 59 in Nacogdoches County

 
NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (October 25, 2022) – Police identified 20-year-old April Julissa Cavazos of Nacogdoches as the victim who died in an accident in the 16000 block of Highway 59 on October 18.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened between Nacogdoches and Garrison around 8:00 PM.
 
Based on a report, Cavazos and 21-year-old James Lopez of Mineola were involved in a verbal altercation that became physical. Subsequently, Cavazos walked into the southbound lane of the highway, where a passing vehicle hit her. Lopez left the scene after the accident.
 
As a result, emergency crews pronounced Cavazos dead at the scene.
 
Later on, police arrested Lopez on assault causing bodily injury of a family member and public intoxication.
 
The investigation into the altercation remains ongoing.
