AUSTIN, TX (September 3, 2024) — 22-year-old Antonio Maldonado and 50-year-old Johnny Reyes died in a DUI pedestrian accident on Saturday, August 24.
 
The Austin Police Department said the accident happened in the 6500 block of North Lamar Boulevard at about 2:26 a.m.
 
According to Austin Police, a man driving while intoxicated hit two pedestrians on North Lamar Boulevard.
 
When officers arrived at the scene, they pronounced the pedestrians dead at the scene. Authorities identified them as Antonio Maldonado and Johnny Reyes.
 
Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene. They identified him as 22-year-old Edward Rodriguez.
 
Officers later arrested Rodriguez for driving under the influence.

The incident is Austin’s 57th traffic-related death of this year.
