Angel Celaya Killed after Surprise Car Accident on Waddell Road and Sarival Avenue

SURPRISE, AZ (December 26, 2024) — A 26-year-old man, Angel Salas Celaya, died in a car accident on Monday, December 9.

Surprise police officers and fire crews responded to the intersection of Waddell Road and Sarival Avenue, just east of Loop 303 at about 11:30 p.m.

Police said the driver of a silver vehicle tried to turn left onto Sarival Avenue. Then a black car driven by Celaya moving westbound on Waddell Road hit the silver vehicle. Police say the black car had no taillights or headlights.

First responders pulled Celaya out of the vehicle. After that, they brought him to the hospital in serious condition and he later died from sustained injuries.

Police said paramedics also brought the driver of the silver vehicle to the hospital with injuries but is expected to survive.

Officers closed Sarival Avenue and Waddell Road as crews investigated and worked to repair the damaged traffic signal. They reopened the roadway once crews finished the repairs.

An investigation into the incident is underway. Police believe speed and impairment contributed as factors.

Our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Angel Celaya.
