Alex Bingham Struck and Seriously Injured by Suspected Hit-and-Run Driver Jose Contreras in Odessa
ODESSA, TX (November 13, 2024) – The Odessa Police Department identified Alex Bingham who suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run in the 3700 block of Everglade Avenue on October 27.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened around 1:35 AM. Based on a report, Bingham went outside of his house after he heard a loud noise before the incident.
Due to unknown reasons, a dark-colored Dodge Challenger struck him and fled the scene without stopping.
As a result, Bingham suffered a broken spine, broken hip, broken arm, and serious head injuries. They took him to the hospital, where he is currently in a medically induced coma.
Investigators followed a trail of skid marks away from the crash site and found the Challenger abandoned down the street near the crash scene. Authorities later identified and arrested the Dodge driver, Jose Contreras of Midland.
Investigators said he was allegedly drunk behind the wheel during the crash. They booked him into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on one count of Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury and one count of Collision Causing Serious Bodily Injury, both third-degree felonies.
