PHOENIX, AZ (December 20, 2023) – Phoenix Police identified 24-year-old Alejandra Lopez and 34-year-old Joseph Anthony Woltman who died in separate accidents on 10 Freeway on December 12.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at 40th Street just before 6:30 AM. Based on the report, Lopez was walking on the freeway in the construction area when three vehicles hit her.
 
Police said at least one of them drove off after the crash. At the same time, Woltman was running in and out of lanes around the same area. Due to unknown reasons, he unsuccessfully tried to get into a vehicle and was hit by a semi-truck. DPS said Woltman was homeless.
 
Both victims sustained grave injuries and died at the scene.
