Akua Miggins Killed and Francisco Garcia Arrested after Hit-and-Run Accident on 67th Avenue and Indian School Road
PHOENIX, AZ (September 25, 2023) — 36-year-old Akua Mashavu Safiya Miggins died in a hit-and-run crash on Friday, September 1.
According to Phoenix police, the accident happened near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road at around 2:00 a.m. on Friday.
Police said a vehicle hit the back of another car. The impact sent it into a power pole before it overturned.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found two women inside the vehicle that was hit. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. However, Miggins, who is a passenger in the crash, died at the scene.
The man who was driving the other car left the scene before officers arrived.
Phoenix Police found and arrested the hit-and-run suspect two days after the incident. During the investigation, they identified him as 40-year-old Francisco Garcia.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Robert Scherer said they located and arrested Garcia on September 3. They booked him on multiple charges, including leaving the scene of a fatal collision and endangerment.
