Suspected DUI Driver Aiona Key Involved in Pedestrian Accident in Austin
AUSTIN, TX (August 15, 2024) – Officers arrested 37-year-old Aiona Key following a pedestrian accident on Georgian Drive on July 25.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Oertli Lane around 6:00 AM. Based on a report, Key was driving a Honda Civic on Georgian Drive at the time of the crash.
Due to unknown reasons, he veered to the right off the roadway and went onto the sidewalk, where he hit a pedestrian. Records showed he kept driving on the sidewalk until he hit a utility pole, disabling the vehicle.
As a result, the pedestrian had critical, life-threatening injuries in the incident. EMS personnel performed CPR and transported the victim to Dell Seton for treatment.
Key then ran, laid down, and tried to hide in vegetation when police arrived. An officer then took him into custody after he showed bloodshot, glassy eyes, stuttered speech, staggered walking, and had an odor of alcohol coming from his breath. They booked him into the Travis County jail for intoxication assault with a vehicle, evading arrest, and an accident involving serious bodily injury.
