Melissa Bean Identified in Fatal Boat Accident in Lake Powell

 
PAGE, AZ (August 12, 2024) – The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office identified 72-year-old Melissa Bean who died in a boat accident along with two children in Lake Powell on July 26.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near the mouth of Navajo Canyon around 3:15 PM. Based on a report, the victims’ pontoon boat at the lake was carrying 11 people at the time.
 
Another boater was towing the boat and due to unknown reasons, it capsized, trapping several people underneath.
 
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area rangers responded and confirmed that Bean and two 4-year-old children died in the incident.
 
The National Park Service, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office are still working to know the cause of the accident.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
