Auto-Pedestrian Accident on County Beach Access No. 5 Kills 6-Year-Old Boy, Charges Driver Hector Martinez Jr. with Intoxication Manslaughter

 
CAMERON COUNTY, TX (August 9, 2022) – A 6-year-old boy died after being hit by DUI driver Hector Martinez Jr. on July 10.

A 6-year-old boy died after being hit half a mile north of county beach access No. 5. The driver of the vehicle, Hector Martinez Jr., was charged with intoxication manslaughter on July 10.

According to the investigation, the victim was playing near the shoreline when the incident happened. The 53-year-old Martinez J., who was driving a Ford Expedition, backed up and ran over the child.

Officials airlifted the boy to a nearby hospital but later on died.

Investigation also revealed that Martinez Jr. was driving while intoxicated when he hit the victim. According to the Cameron County Park Ranger Division, the driver is now facing charges for intoxication manslaughter.

The investigation is ongoing.
