Child Dies in Kleberg County Crash on US Highway 77
KLEBERG COUNTY, TX (December 1, 2022) – A 3-year-old girl died after a car crash on Highway 77 on Monday, November 21.
Based on the investigation conducted by Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident took place around 11:00 a.m. A silver Hyundai Tucson was trying to pull out of a Valero gas station when the car was t-boned by an oncoming gray Nissan Quest.
DPS officials said the driver of the Hyundai tried to cross the southbound lane to turn north onto Highway 77 when it was hit by the driver of the Nissan, which was going southbound.
The impact of the crash caused the Hyundai to go airborne and spin several times, DPS officials said.
Medics took the child to Driscoll Children’s Hospital. However, she died the next day from her injuries, police said. The 3-year-old was a passenger in the Hyundai.
Those involved in the accident were then transported to Christus Spohn Hospital, while the girl was sent to DCH.
No other information was given. The crash is still under investigation, DPS officials said.
