Suspected DUI Driver Daisy Cordero Involved in Fatal DUI Crash in Odessa

 
ODESSA, TX (June 22, 2023) – The Odessa Police Department identified 19-year-old Nallely Mendoza who survived a fatal DUI crash on Grandview Avenue on June 12.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Maple Avenue. Based on a report, Mendoza was idling at a red light on Grandview at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, 36-year-old Daisy Cordero rear-ended her vehicle.
 
As a result, Mendoza’ one-year-old son, who was in the back seat along with his sister, suffered serious brain injuries. Emergency crews airlifted the victim to a Lubbock hospital, where he later died.
 
Mendoza and her daughter sustained injuries in the incident.
 
Investigators said Cordero was intoxicated at the time of the crash. They added that she tried to bribe officers not to take her to jail.
 
They arrested and charged her with Intoxication Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injuries, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injuries, and Bribery.
