PORT HADLOCK-IRONDALE, WA (May 15, 2023) – Emergency crews airlifted 19-year-old Chase J. Schweitzer of Port Townsend to the hospital after a crash on southbound Highway 19 on May 12.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at Irondale Road around 12:20 PM. Based on a report, Schweitzer was driving a 1991 Toyota pickup truck northbound on the highway at the time of the crash.

At the same time, a 2006 GMC pickup truck and a 2010 Honda Accord were traveling southbound. Due to unknown reasons, the driver of the GMC pickup, Steven Coulter, failed to yield and turned left in front of the 1991 Toyota.

To avoid being hit by the GMC pickup, Schweitzer drove into the southbound lane and struck the Honda Accord head-on.

As a result, crews took Schweitzer to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of injuries.

Police said Coulter was cited in the incident.

As of now, the crash remains under investigation.
