15-Year-Old Killed after Mount Vernon Solo-Car Accident on Highway 534

 
MOUNT VERNON, WA (February 16, 2024) — A 15-year-old died and three other teens suffered injuries in a solo-car crash on Highway 534 on Tuesday, February 6.
 
According to Washington State Patrol, the crash took place on Highway 534 near Coyote Lane at around 10:00 p.m.
 
WSP said a 15-year-old boy drove a vehicle on Highway 534. Then he lost control of the vehicle while making a turn. After that, the car struck a power pole and came to rest on the right shoulder.
 
EMS responders brought the 15-year-old driver to Skagit Valley Hospital. WSP said he wore his seatbelt when the crash happened.
 
Paramedics transported another 15-year-old boy passenger to Harborview Medical Center for his injuries. They also airlifted a 16-year-old girl to Harborview Medical Center via Life Flight.
 
Unfortunately, a 15-year-old girl died at the scene. Troopers said she did not wear a seat belt.
 
It’s unclear what caused the incident. However, there are no other vehicles involved.
 
Authorities said the involved teens are all Mount Vernon residents.
 
Troopers said they will continue to investigate whether impairment was a factor in the crash. Additionally, they will also determine if the teen driver will face any charges.
