12-Year-Old Gabriel Coury Killed, 19-Year-Old DUI Driver Arrested in Accident on 132nd Avenue Southeast in Kent

 
KENT, WA (July 18, 2023) – Kent Police confirmed the death of 12-year-old Gabriel Coury in a DUI accident on 132nd Avenue Southeast on July 11.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened just south of Sunrise Elementary School around 7:00 PM. Based on a report, the victim was riding his scooter from the park. Coury was only a few feet away from his home when a 19-year-old driver crossed the double yellow line. Subsequently, the driver hit Coury and fled the scene.
 
As a result, Coury sustained grave injuries and died in the incident.
 
Officers later found the driver who told police he drank four cans of alcoholic iced tea in a park prior to the accident.
 
Officials with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said the teen is held behind bars on a $100,000 bond.
 
Coury’s family set-up a GoFundMe account to help them with his funeral expenses.
 
At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
