CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, CO (April 11, 2024) — A 12-year-old boy died in a car accident on the 70 Freeway on Saturday, April 6.

According to the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at 232 off-ramp 70 Freeway westbound near Empire Junction at about 9:00 p.m.

CCSO said that the truck exited the 70 Freeway at Exit 232. Then it went off the exit ramp, and it got submerged in the creek.

When officers arrived, they discovered two women with cuts on their faces. They also found a man running up the embankment shouting for help.

There were difficulties in freeing the boy because he was trapped between the vehicle and a boulder. Clear Creek deputies, officers from Idaho Springs and Georgetown police departments, and one bystander helped to extricate the boy.

Then they transported him to a hospital where medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival. The Clear Creek County Coroner’s Office has not yet released his identity.
