11-Year-Old Leia Garza Struck and Injured by Hit-and-Run Driver in Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ (April 18, 2024) – The Phoenix Police Department identified 11-year-old Leia Garza who suffered injuries in a hit-and-run on Desert Foothills Parkway on April 3.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Chandler Boulevard around 2:45 PM. Based on a report, the sixth grader student at Kyrene Altadeña Middle School was walking to McDonald’s after school at the time of the crash.
Garza was in the crosswalk while the walk signal was on. Due to unknown reasons, a vehicle ran a red light and struck her. Then, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
As a result, Garza suffered injuries in the crash. Her mom reported that those injuries were not serious.
Phoenix police said they do not have any details about the type of car involved yet. Witnesses describe the car as a dark, four-door sedan with out-of-state license plates. Officers ask anyone with information to contact the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness to remain anonymous.
