Aparicio Matias Killed in DUI Crash on Highway 101 at Highway 3 [Shelton, WA]

Aparicio Matias Identified in Fatal Shelton Car Crash

 
SHELTON, WA (March 29, 2023) – Police identified 27-year-old Aparicio Mendoza Matias of Shelton as the victim who died in a crash on Highway 101 on March 22.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at Highway 3 around 6:25 PM. Based on a report, Matias was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Passat behind a 2020 Jeep Wrangler on the southbound side of Highway 101.
 
At one point, he struck the rear end of the Wrangler and lost control. Subsequently, the Passat crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the front end of a 2004 Audi TT that was traveling north.
 
As a result, Matias suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
 
A 19-year-old Olympia resident in the Passat was not hurt. The drivers of the other vehicles, including a 60-year-old Shelton woman who drove the Wrangle, suffered injuries.
 
Police said DUI was a possible factor in the crash.
 
At this point, an investigation into the accident is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
