Baby Emma Hays Killed, Woman Injured in Valley Car Accident

 
VALLEY, WA (July 29, 2024) — A six-month-old baby, identified as Emma Hays, died in a two-vehicle accident on Monday, July 15.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, a two-vehicle crash happened Monday morning on Highway 395 at milepost 200, near Bakie Road at around 10:30 a.m.
 
WSP troopers said two vehicles traveled north on Highway 395. Then one vehicle with two adults, a 3-year-old boy, a 2-year-old boy, and 6-month-old Emma, made a left turn on Bakie Road.
 
The second northbound vehicle slammed into the rear of the first vehicle. WSP said the second vehicle was following the first car too close.
 
First responders brought Emma to the hospital, where she later died.
 
There was a single woman in the second vehicle. Paramedics also brought her to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Her current condition is not immediately available.
 
All passengers wore seatbelts in the accident.
 
WSP said that impairment was not a factor in the accident. They labeled the cause of the incident as ‘following too close’.
 
Authorities closed the highway for a short time and officers detoured the traffic.
