PHOENIX, AZ (July 29, 2024) — A 44-year-old man identified as Henry Mandley died in a DUI accident on Saturday, July 14.
 
According to the Phoenix Police, the two-vehicle accident occurred near 35th Avenue and Southern Avenue at about 5:40 p.m.
 
Authorities said the incident occurred when 22-year-old Fernando Rodriguez-Sanchez drove an SUV. The vehicle then passed some stopped traffic through the bike lane. After that, it ran a red light and struck a second vehicle.
 
The impact of the collision ejected Mandley, who was a passenger in the second vehicle. When officers arrived at the area, they found him with serious injuries. Paramedics then brought Mandley to the hospital. However, he died in the early morning hours on Sunday.
 
A woman who was behind the wheel of the second vehicle, and two minors that were also passengers sustained minor injuries. Paramedics brought them all to the hospital.
 
After the collision, Rodriguez-Sanchez and a passenger fled on foot after the crash. Officials detained them just afterward. They then processed Rodriguez-Sanchez for DUI. They also booked him into jail for endangerment, aggravated assault, failure to stay at a fatal collision scene, and felony DUI charges.
