Fernando Perez Arrested, One Killed after Houston DUI Crash
HOUSTON, TX (November 26, 2023) — Authorities arrested 23-year-old Fernando Jose Chacon Perez after a DUI crash on Tuesday, November 15.
According to the Houston Police Department, the crash occurred at around 11:40 p.m. at 9100 Gulf Freeway Service Road.
Authorities said Perez drove a silver Mazda M3S on the southbound lane of the service road. Then he went into the entrance ramp onto the Gulf Freeway. After that, his vehicle veered off the ramp and back onto the service road. It crashed into a tree, a utility pole, and ultimately, a utility box.
HFP paramedics pronounced the backseat passenger dead on the scene. They also rushed the 18-year-old front-seat passenger to a medical center in stable condition.
Medics also brought Perez to the hospital with minor injuries. Police later determined he was intoxicated. They charged him with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
After medical officers discharged him from the hospital, police booked him into Harris County jail.
