Barry Smith Killed in Crash on Highway 96 at County Road 773 [Buna, TX]

Barry Smith Identified in Fatal Buna Crash

 
BUNA, TX (October 26, 2023) – Officials identified 44-year-old Barry Smith of Burkeville who died in a crash on Highway 96 on October 14.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at County Road 773 at approximately 11:00 AM. Based on a report, Smith was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound on the highway at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, he went off of the highway and hit a pole. Subsequently, his vehicle then went into the northbound lane where it was hit by a GMC Sierra pickup truck.
 
As a result, Smith sustained grave injuries in the crash. Emergency crews took him to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, where he died shortly after arrival.
 
The driver of the GMC, 68-year-old Robert Booker, of Kirbyville, was not hurt.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
