Maria Reyes Identified in Fatal Crash Involving Police Vehicle on Highway 83 in Austin

 
AUSTIN, TX (July 20, 2023) – The Austin Police Department identified 43-year-old Maria Irene Casillas Reyes who died in a crash in the 13000 block of Highway 183 on June 30.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision involved Reyes’ car and a marked police patrol vehicle of on-duty police officer Alyssa Preuss.
 
As a result, police said Reyes sustained grave injuries and died at the scene.
 
Preuss was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
 
As of now, APD asks anyone with information about the crash to call APD at 512-974-8111. In addition, the case remains under investigation.
