Wylie Parker III Dead and James Apple Airlifted in Car Accident on Highway 36

 
BAIRD, TX (June 20, 2024) — A 21-year-old man identified as Wylie Howard Parker III, of Troy, Ohio, died in a car crash on Friday, May 31.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash took place at the Highway 36 and Highway 283 at around 3:30 p.m.
 
A DPS report said Parker III traveled north in a passenger car on Highway 283. At the same time, a pickup truck driven by 82-year-old James William Apple, of Cross Plains, traveled east on Highway 36.
 
Then Parker did not stop at the stop sign in the intersection and continued into Apple’s path. After that, Apple’s truck crashed into the left side of Parker’s vehicle.
 
Justice of the Peace Tom Rumfield pronounced Parker dead at the scene.
 
Authorities airlifted Apple to Hendrick Medical Center. DPS said he was in critical condition with debilitating injuries.
 
The Texas Highway Patrol in Baird and the Callahan County Sheriff’s Office handle the ongoing investigation of the accident.
