William Gray Identified in Fatal Amarillo Head-On Crash

AMARILLO, TX (May 3, 2023) – The Potter County Justice of the Peace identified 22-year-old William Gray of Hereford as the victim who died in a crash on Highway 287 on April 30.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at approximately 5:25 AM. Based on a report, Gray’s 2007 Kia Spectra was traveling the wrong way in the southeast lane on the highway prior to the crash.

Subsequently, he struck a southeast bound Freightliner truck tractor towing a semi-trailer in head-on. Then, his vehicle entered the center median, rolled over, and came to a rest in the turnaround.

The Freightliner truck traveled across the center median and onto the northwest-bound lane, rolled over onto its side, and caught fire.

As a result, Gray died in the incident.

The truck driver, 54-year-old Deandre Cooper of Fort Worth, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Crews took him to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital for treatment.

As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.

We offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of William Gray.
