Walter Koricanek Identified in Fatal Drowsy Driving Crash in St David

 
ST DAVID, AZ (June 13, 2023) – Officials identified 60-year-old Walter Koricanek who died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 80 on June 7.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision at approximately 4:00 PM. Based on a report, Koricanek was driving eastbound on the highway prior to the crash.
 
At the same time, two other vehicles were also traveling on the same direction. Due to unknown reasons, the driver of a vehicle going westbound on the highway fell asleep. The driver then drove into oncoming traffic and crashed into the three eastbound vehicles.
 
As a result, Koricanek suffered grave injuries in the incident. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
The occupants of the three other vehicles were taken to different hospitals with injuries.
 
Officials did not suspect impairment as a factor in the wreck. As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
