Virginia Alaniz Dead, Roman DeLeon Arrested in Suspected DUI Accident in San Antonio

 
SAN ANTONIO, TX (January 30, 2025) — An 80-year-old woman, Virginia Alaniz, died in a suspected DUI accident on Sunday, January 26.
 
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the crash happened at around 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of South Presa Street and the Southeast Loop 410 Access Road.
 
San Antonio Police determined that 51-year-old Roman DeLeon drove at a high rate of speed on the frontage road. Then he crashed into a vehicle stopped at a red light, pushing it into a third vehicle.
 
Alaniz, a front passenger in the second vehicle, sustained fatal injuries. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old passenger in the same vehicle suffered a possible broken leg. Paramedics transported him to a hospital. Another occupant was also hospitalized as a precaution.
 
Officials also brought DeLeon, who police suspect was under the influence at the time of the crash, to a hospital for treatment.
 
Authorities confirmed that once released, they will book DeLeon on charges of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury. They set his bond at $300,000.
 
San Antonio police continue to investigate the incident.
