Two People Die in Multi-Vehicle Accident on 10 Freeway in Chandler
CHANDLER, AZ (November 5, 2024) — Two people died in a multi-vehicle accident on 10 Freeway on Wednesday, October 16.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident involving four vehicles occurred on 10 Freeway, roughly two miles south of Riggs Road at around noon.
Troopers said traffic slowed down on the freeway. Then a box truck driver did not slow down in time. It crashed into the back of a pickup truck and three other vehicles.
The impact of the collision pushed the box truck and pickup into the median. As a result, both vehicles caught fire.
The drivers of the pickup and box truck sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. They were the only occupant inside their vehicles.
Meanwhile, paramedics brought the drivers of the two other vehicles to the hospital with minor injuries. A semi-truck was also rear-ended, but DPS said that the driver was not hurt.
Traffic officials closed the freeway in both directions between Riggs Road and Casa Blanca Road. They reopened the eastbound lanes at about 5:00 p.m. and the westbound lanes opened around 6:15 p.m.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
