Two Killed in Puyallup Accident on Canyon Road East
PUYALLUP, WA (August 26, 2024) — Two people died in a fiery accident on Canyon Road East on Wednesday, August 14.
According to the Pierce County deputies, the crash took place on Canyon Road East and 160th Street shortly after 12:00 a.m.
Investigators determined the victim’s vehicle made a left turn to go south on Canyon Road East. At the same time, the other vehicle drove north on the same road at a high rate of speed. After that, it ran the red light and hit the other vehicle.
Witnesses said they noticed the northbound vehicle attempting to race other vehicles south on Canyon Road. A 911 caller said the vehicle moved at speeds of 130 miles per hour.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found that both vehicles burst into flames and were completely engulfed. Once firefighters extinguished the flames, they found that both drivers died.
Officials closed Canyon Road East and 160th Street during the on-scene investigation.
