21-Month-Old Killed after Wrong-Way Accident on Highway 18 in Maple Valley

 
MAPLE VALLEY, WA (November 6, 2024) — A 21-month-old child died after a wrong-way crash on Highway 18 on Monday, October 21.
 
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the accident occurred on eastbound Highway 18 near Highway 169 at around 3:15 p.m.
 
WSP said a 19-year-old man drove in the westbound lanes of Highway 18. Then it crossed over into the eastbound lanes and struck a vehicle.
 
A 21-month-old child who was a passenger in the vehicle that was eastbound died in the collision. Paramedics brought the toddler’s mother to Harborview Medical Center.
 
Meanwhile, emergency responders airlifted both drivers involved in the accident to the hospital.
 
The WSP said they arrested the 19-year-old man who caused the crash on charges of DUI, vehicular assault, and vehicular homicide.
 
Authorities closed both directions of Highway 18 while the helicopters were on the scene of the accident. All lanes reopened just before 7:30 p.m.
