Sebastian Benitez-Mendoza Identified in Fatal Houston Crash
HOUSTON, TX (October 7, 2024) – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office identified Sebastian Benitez-Mendoza who died in a crash on Sheldon Road on September 16.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Crosby Freeway. Based on a report, Benitez-Mendoza was driving a Ford Fiesta north on Sheldon Road before the crash.
At the same time, 49-year-old Joaquin Compean-Juarez was driving a Ford F-150 west on the Crosby Freeway. Due to unknown reasons, Compean-Juarez failed to drive in a single lane and traveled down the grass embankment for the overpass and onto the northbound lanes of Sheldon Road. He then hit the Ford, ejecting Benitez-Mendoza who was not wearing his seatbelt.
As a result, the victim suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
The sheriff said Compean-Juarez showed signs of intoxication and has two prior convictions for driving while intoxicated. Authorities charged him with felony murder.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
