Ricardo Resendez Dies after Former Deputy Rigo Vivar Drives Wrong-Way in Houston

 
HOUSTON, TX (September 3, 2024) — 28-year-old Ricardo Resendez of Houston died in a wrong-way accident on Saturday, August 24.
 
According to the Houston Police Department, the accident occurred at the 2700 block of Canal Street at about 1:30 p.m.
 
Houston Police the crash occurred when off-duty Deputy Rigo Vivar allegedly skipped traffic. Then he went the wrong way in the westbound lanes while on the way to work and struck Resendez.
 
In a statement Monday, Constable Silvia Trevino said the office terminated Vivar a day after the accident. She said Vivar is no longer an employee under the Harris County Precinct 6 Constable’s Office.
 
In addition, Silvia said that they will fully commit to support the ongoing investigation by the Houston Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office.
 
Attorneys that represent the family of Resendez said in a statement that they called on charges to be filed into the crash. It said that they seek complete justice for Resendez.
 
Houston police continue to investigate the accident. It is still unknown whether Vivar will face any charges.
