Refugia Barrera Dead, Gilberto Rosales Jr. Arrested after Alice DUI Accident

 
ALICE, TX (January 21, 2025) — A 51-year-old woman, Refugia Barrera, died in a fatal DUI accident on Sunday, January 19.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident happened a little after 5:00 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 359 and Highway 44.
 
Texas DPS said 52-year-old Gilberto Rosales Jr. drove a Silverado pickup southbound on Highway 359. Then, he veered off the roadway and struck a power pole.
 
His wife, Refugia Barrera, suffered severe injuries in the crash. Emergency responders transported her to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
 
Meanwhile, officers brought Rosales into custody and transported him to the Jim Wells County Jail. He currently faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
 
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation into the crash is still underway.
