PHOENIX, AZ (February 25, 2025) — A 44-year-old woman identified as Rafaela Montes-Garcia died in a pedestrian accident on Sunday, February 23.
 
According to the Phoenix Police, the crash happened near 51st Avenue and Glenrosa Avenue just after 1:00 a.m.
 
Investigators determined that Montes-Garcia was attempting to cross 51st Avenue outside a marked crosswalk. Then an SUV struck her.
 
The female SUV driver immediately called 911. She also remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.
 
Officers arrived and found Montes-Garcia with severe injuries. They pronounced her dead at the scene.
 
Authorities closed the area until 6:30 a.m. as detectives conducted their investigation. Officials have not released further details about the circumstances that led up to the crash.
