Rachel Moss Dies after Chain-Reaction Crash in Tempe
TEMPE, AZ (November 13, 2024) — 55-year-old Rachel Marie Moss, of Chandler, died in a chain-reaction crash on Sunday, November 3.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on Loop 202 near Scottsdale Road at about 3:00 a.m.
The first collision involved a white passenger vehicle that hit the rear of a gray Honda SUV. Then as the vehicles were still in the traffic lanes, a gray Audi passenger vehicle crashed into the Honda.
After that, a gray Ford passenger vehicle collided with the Audi, Honda, and two people who were outside of their vehicles following the initial collisions.
DPS says the third crash killed Moss, who was behind the wheel of the Audi. Another person also sustained serious injuries.
It is not yet determined whether anyone will face charges in connection to the accidents.
Officers closed the freeway from Scottsdale Road to Loop 101 Pima Road as crews cleared the scene. They reopened it at about 11:15 a.m.
The investigation of the incident is still underway.
