Porfirio Alvarez Struck and Seriously Injured by Hit-and-Run Driver in Houston
HOUSTON, TX (June 27, 2024) – Officials identified 53-year-old Porfirio Alvarez, a man with special needs, who suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run on T C Jester Boulevard on May 23.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Allen Street. Based on a report, Alvarez was walking along T C Jester Boulevard when a vehicle hit him. His family said he was just out picking up cans to recycle.
A bartender from a nearby restaurant heard the crash and ran outside to see what happened. They found Alvarez’s shopping cart and cans spread out everywhere.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without helping Alvarez.
The impact threw him 40 feet. As a result, he was seriously hurt and is now fighting for his life at the hospital. The accident left doctors with no other choice but to remove a kidney and his spleen.
Police are still looking for the hit-and-run driver.
