Phillip Leroy Fatally Injured in Motorcycle Crash on Loop 101 near University Drive

 
TEMPE, AZ (July 31, 2023) — 46-year-old Chandler resident identified as Phillip Leroy, died in a motorcycle crash on Saturday, July 22.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, just before 7:00 p.m. Leroy rode a motorcycle northbound on Loop 101. Then he failed to slow down for a stopped traffic due to an earlier crash.
 
Leroy was not able to stop in time and crashed into the back of a vehicle, catching fire in the process. He died from sustained injuries in the crash.
 
According to reports, he did not wear a helmet at the time of the accident.
 
Officials closed a large portion of Loop 101 at University Drive as crews cleared the scene and investigated the crash. They reopened the road at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
