PHOENIX, AZ (December 1, 2024) — One person identified as Peter Stump died in an accident on Monday, November 11.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on 10 Freeway near Warner Road shortly before 8:30 p.m.
 
DPS said troopers responded to the area for reports of a pedestrian in westbound lanes. They tried to detain the man, who later jumped the median into eastbound lanes.
 
Then a vehicle on the eastbound side of travel hit the man. They later identified him as a 34-year-old man from Glendale. After that, a scuffle happened between a trooper and the suspect as the trooper took the man into custody.
 
At the same time, a separate incident happened between two vehicles. A passenger in one of those vehicles died at the scene. DPS officials said the drivers of both vehicles also sustained injuries.
 
Authorities later identified the deceased passenger as 40-year-old Peter Stump from Chandler.
 
Officials said they had not booked the pedestrian into jail due to injuries. However, the suspect will face long-form charges.
 
The investigation of the incident is still underway.
