Community Parole Officer Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver Justin Kula in Colorado Springs

 
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (October 3, 2023) – The Colorado Springs Police Department identified parole officer Christine Guerin Sandoval who died in a hit-and-run on Spruce Street on September 28.
 
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened at Bijou Street around 3:45 PM. Based on a report, Sandoval and two parole officers were attempting to contact 41-year-old Justin Kula to take him into custody for a felony warrant.
 
The suspect fled the scene and his charcoal RX 330 Lexus hit Sandoval and one of the two officers.
 
As a result, Sandoval suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
 
Crews transported the other officer to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
 
Officers arrested and held Kula in the El Paso County jail without bond. According to court documents, the charges were leaving a scene following an accident involving a death, reckless manslaughter, and assault while knowingly and recklessly causing injury.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
