According to the Peoria Police Department, the incident occurred near 83rd Avenue and Cactus Road shortly before 7:00 a.m.
 
Peoria Police said a vehicle struck the pedestrian while they tried to cross the street.
 
Emergency responders arrived and then transported the injured individual to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. As of writing, authorities have not yet released the identity of the pedestrian.
 
The driver involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
 
Officials closed the intersection of 79th Avenue and Cactus Road in all directions for a few hours. They completely reopened the roadway at around 10:45 a.m.
