One Killed, One Airlifted in Pedestrian Accident on Highway 59 [Wharton, TX]

WHARTON, TX (September 12, 2024) – The Wharton Police Department confirmed that one man died in a pedestrian accident on southbound Highway 59 on September 6.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near Ponderosa Road. Based on a report, the victim was working on a broken-down 18-wheeler truck with another man on the side of the highway before the incident.
 
Due to unknown reasons, another vehicle came and hit them.
 
As a result, one of the men suffered grave injuries and died in the incident. Officials did not release his name, pending kin notification.
 
Emergency crews airlifted the second victim to a Houston hospital for treatment of injuries.
 
Police say the 18-wheeler was not well-lit at the time of the crash.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
