Fatal DUI Crash on South 16th Avenue at West Washington Avenue in Yakima
YAKIMA, WA (February 9, 2025) – The Yakima Police Department confirmed that one person died in a DUI crash on South 16th Avenue on January 29.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at West Washington Avenue around 11:54 PM. Based on a report, the victim was driving a 2014 Jeep Wrangler before the crash.
At the same time, a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on 16th Avenue. Due to unknown reasons, the driver of the Grand Cherokee failed to stop and struck the victim’s Wrangler.
As a result, the victim died at the scene. Authorities identified him as a 55-year-old male from the Seattle area.
Crews took his 30-year-old female passenger to Multi-Care Memorial Hospital. The occupants of the Jeep also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the driver of the Jeep showed signs of alcohol impairment. Officials booked him into the Yakima County jail on charges of vehicular homicide and driving on a suspended license.
