LAS VEGAS, NV (May 28, 2024) — One person sustained injuries in a skateboard accident near Deer Springs on Wednesday, May 15.
 
According to Las Vegas police, the accident took place near Deer Springs Way and Durango Drive at about 5:04 p.m.
 
Reports said a 1997 GMC Sierra pickup truck traveled westbound on Deer Springs Way. At the same time, a skateboarder tried to cross the street outside of a marked crosswalk.
 
The skateboarder tried to cross in heavy traffic, backed up from the intersection with Durango Drive. Police said the skateboarder went into the path of the pickup when the vehicle struck it.
 
Emergency responders rushed the skateboarder to Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police believe he is between 17 and 20 years old.
 
Police said the pickup driver remained at the scene of the crash. He also did not display show signs of impairment.
 
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section handles the ongoing investigation.
