FILLMORE, CA (March 1, 2023) – Police confirmed that one person died after a head-on car crash on Highway 126 on Monday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, police were notified of the fatal collision around 10:15 a.m. near Calvin Road.

Based on reports, it was rainy and the roads were wet when the accident happened. A 2000 Mercury driving east on Highway 126 at the time. After that, the vehicle drove into the path of the westbound traffic.

Soon after, the Mercury slammed into a 2013 BMW head-on.

Authorities said a 64-year-old driver and a 66-year-old passenger were in the Mercury. Both of them are Palmdale residents and were wearing seat belts during the accident.

The female passenger suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Responders rushed the driver of the Mercury and the 24-year-old driver of the BMW to the hospital with major injuries.

At this point, the highway was unavailable for about an hour while investigation continued. The traffic was diverted to the eastbound lanes.
